Seven habits that extend your vehicle’s working life.

Your vehicle is the centre of your daily income, so maintenance is also a business habit. A few minutes of care can prevent a missed route, an unhappy passenger, or a repair bill that arrives at the worst possible time. The goal is not complicated mechanical work; it is noticing small changes early and following a predictable routine.

Seven habits worth building

1. Check tyres before every shift. Look for low pressure, cuts, uneven wear, or objects stuck in the tread. Correct pressure improves handling and can reduce energy use.

2. Test brakes and lights. Squeeze the brake levers, check brake response, and confirm that headlights, indicators, and brake lights work before carrying passengers or goods.

3. Listen for new sounds. A new rattle, squeak, vibration, or grinding sound deserves attention. Write down when it happens so a technician can diagnose it faster.

4. Follow the charging routine. For an electric vehicle, use the charger recommended by the manufacturer, keep connectors dry, and avoid forcing a damaged plug. Give the battery time to cool when guidance requires it.

5. Keep the vehicle clean. Cleaning makes damage easier to spot and creates a better experience for passengers. Pay attention to mirrors, windows, floor areas, and places where moisture collects.

6. Service on schedule. Do not wait for a failure before booking routine servicing. Ask what has been checked and keep receipts, dates, and replaced parts in one simple record.

7. Protect your downtime. Keep emergency contacts, basic tools, a tyre inflator or repair option, and important documents ready. A small preparation can shorten an unexpected stop.

Maintenance records also help you understand the true cost of running your route. Over time, you will see which parts need attention, which routes are hardest on the vehicle, and when a larger repair should be planned. That information helps you budget confidently and keep more working days available.
